GHOSTLY FOG DISCOVERED IN A WEST VIRGINIA FARM PARK
MARTINSBURG The ghosts, ghouls and spirits of those buried at Poor House Farm Park will be channeled when a Hedgesville-based group begins searching for paranormal activity at the end of October.
Paranormal Patrol will offer public tours Oct. 21, 27, 28, 30 and 31 at the park and will donate 40 percent of the profit from the tours to Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation.
The money raised from the tours will go back into Parks & Recreations general fund, said board member Bonn Poland.
This is strictly for entertainment purposes only, said Robin Butts, co-owner of Paranormal Patrol. Were not pros or experts in the field.
Butts said guides will give a tour and a brief history of the land surrounding the former poorhouse at the park before showing patrons how to use electric magnetic wave readers and electric voice recorders and allowing them to channel spirits.
We tell them to take cameras to see if they catch any paranormal activity, said Butts, adding a 35-millimeter or a digital camera works best for capturing the spirits.
Poor House Farm Park may exhibit many ghosts and spirits because a cemetery is located near the former poorhouse, Butts said. One of the people buried there may have been the owner of the land surrounding the poorhouse, Butts said.
We dug clear back to the 1700s to get the information, she said.
Butts said she was at the park a few weeks ago and took 20 pictures of ectoplasma, or ghostly fog.
But Poland said hes never heard of any paranormal activity at the park.
Ive not personally heard of a Poor House Farm ghost, Poland said.
Paranormal Patrol visits different locations just about every weekend, Butts said. The group even uses bait and lore tactics, like battlefield marching music when visiting a battlefield, to channel the spirits.
We have a lot of good pictures of orbs and human figure shapes, she said.
Butts said tours at Poor House Farm Park will run from 8 to 10 p.m. and 10 to midnight.
Reservations for a tour can be made by contacting Butts at 279-8837 or at paranormalpatrol@aol.com. Tickets for the tour cost $15 for adults and $7 for children ages 7 to 12. The tour is not recommended for children under 7.
I think it gets a little too scary for them, Butts said.
