RISE OF THE MIRACLE TREE
A tree in Bihar's Dobhi village has become an object of divinity for villagers, who believe it as a manifestation of some god or goddess.
"I arrived here to chop down the tree which had fallen down. I must have hardly struck it thrice with my axe when there was a voice asking me to move away. It said it was going to raise itself and miraculously, within two minutes, the tree stood up. I am sure it was a divine announcement," claims Bhuneshwar Prasad, a villager.
Dobhi village is now teeming with believers who think it can only be God's hand in the happening.
"Worship is going on here. The Goddess manifested herself through a woman's body and appeared before the devotees. The Goddess ordered through the medium that a temple be erected in her honour and the worship has begun," said Kavita Devi, another villager.
Ranjit Kumar Gupta, who has completed his high school, is unsure about the miracle having even taken place.
"I do not think it is possible. The water must have caused the tree to slide towards the heavier top, which when cut from the branches side, made it upright," claimed Gupta.
Rajesh Kumar Manjhi, a local legislator, said," It is a typical happening and is possible anywhere in orthodox and superstitious India."
Superstition is quite prevalent in most rural areas of the country. Villagers believe in miracles and exorcism rather than obtaining proper medical treatment.
