DID DEMONS FORCE MARK CHAPMAN TO MURDER JOHN LENNON?
Mark David Chapman: Did the devil make him do it?
An article in the Winter 2007 issue of Haunted Times Magazine contains information never before publicly released about Mark David Chapmans claims that he was possessed when he murdered John Lennon. The article With a little help from my friends: Did demons force Mark David Chapman to murder John Lennon written by internationally renowned paranormal investigator and medium, Chip Coffey, delves into the background of Chapmans claim.
For some, the murder of John Lennon by Mark David Chapman on that fateful evening of December 8, 1980 might seem like a straightforward case of bad man pulls trigger. However, according to an article in the Winter 2007 issue of Haunted Times Magazine, something more sinister may have been at work.
The article Did Demons Force Mark David Chapman to Murder John Lennon written by internationally acclaimed paranormal investigator and medium, Chip Coffey, contains shocking information never before released to the public.
In 1972, Chapman became friends with a Decatur, Georgia couple and their two young children. Shortly before meeting Chapman, the family had relocated to this four bedroom, two-story house. The couples seven-year-old daughter began exhibiting bizarre behavior almost immediately. She began screaming at night, cursing and violently attacking others as she repeatedly claimed to see a vision of an old man, which terrified her.
Strangely enough, when the family relocated for a year due to the husbands job transfer to Upstate New York, the daughters visions ceased and her behavior returned to normal. When the year was up and the family moved back into their Decatur home, the bizarre behavior started up again.
Chapman was never told about these incidents. He claimed to have murdered John Lennon because he was commanded to do so by two demons that he had encountered in that same Decatur home. Witnesses saw Chapman sitting on a swing in the yard just weeks before Lennons murder more than a year after the family had moved.
At trial, he did not use the insanity defense.
Could demonic possession explain the senseless murder of one of rock n rolls most beloved icons? Nothing will bring John Lennon back. But could his fans accept this theory for the brutal tragedy that they so desperately want to understand?
Chris Moon, editor of Haunted Times magazine says, Demonic possessions have long been an issue of interest and debate. There are recorded incidents as early as 4000 B.C. It was believed that demons were responsible for diseases of the mind and body. Priests were called to perform exorcisms. Throughout the centuries, the concept came to be adopted by some religious groups and rejected by others. Modern day is really no different.
Coffey, who has spoken with the family, states, I look at odds. Whats the likelihood that he [Chapman] could have made this up? No-one outside of the four members of the Decatur family knew about what was going on in that house.
One thing is for certain, for Mark David Chapman, who shortly after his incarceration at Attica Correctional Institute called upon Jesus to rid him of the demons, as for the family he befriended in Decatur, there is no doubt that such demons do indeed exist.
