The 5 Dollar Gold American Eagle
Th US $5 Eagle is a gold coins measured in troy ounces. As of July 2010, the United States $5 American Gold Eagle coin is worth about $145. The modern American Gold Eagle coin was first minted in 1986; The gold eagles minted between 1986 and 1991 use Roman numberal data and those minted after 1992 have arabic dates. They are required to contain the actual amount of gold weight as stated in troy ounces, but also contain silver and copper alloy to make them more wear resistant, at a current specification of 0.9167, or 22 carat. This has been authorized by Congress and the United States Mint, for guarantees as to metal content and weight.

What is the design of the coin
Originally the older 20 dollar gold eagle design from the early 20th century was used to design the current 5 dollar eagle; Augustus Saint-Gaudens created the design and used it for the new American Eagle gold coin. (The $20 American Eagle gold coin had its first minting in 1907 and was in general circulation until 1933.)
The United States $5 American Gold Eagle coin recaptures the "flavor" of the $20 coin, and uses symbolism classic to many American citizens. The front of the coin contains the LAdt Liberty with torch and olive branch and the capitol behind on the left. On the back, a bald eagle carries an olive branch in its mouth and flies above a nest with a female eagle and "little eagles" therein.

The eagle is the United States' national emblem, originally chosen on June 20, 1782. This bird was chosen because it was believed it only existed in America. The eagle represents freedom. There's also a popular story that circulates which says that when one of the first battles of the Revolution broke out, the sounds of the fighting woke up the eagles that slept in the heights overhead, and they circled the fighting men, raucously crying all the time. The Patriots are said to have stated, "They are shrieking for Freedom."
The eagle to this day remains the one of the primary symbols of America.
