South Africa: The World’s Leading Gold Exporter
As we all know gold is one of the mineral resources than can be used for trading and this is being used all over the world. Many countries depend on their gold production to maintain the growth of their economy. Australia, the US and China are some of the world’s top producers of gold. South Africa, on the other hand, ranks first.
The Republic of South Africa in recent years is one of the leading gold exporters in the world. This is because this country is rich in mineral resources like platinum, titanium and gold of course being number one on their list. They have been the largest producers and exporters of this said mineral, supplying the mass majority of product to those buying bars of gold and other physical assets. The country relies on their mineral resources production to be able to increase their economic income to be able to compete with other countries and not to be left behind in the race. They have started to export coal as well.
TauTona Mine is located in West Witts, South Africa. This mining industry is owned and controlled by AngloGold Ashanti and in 2006 they have started the project of extending the gold mine to 3.9 km. By 2008 the project was completed and today it is now considered as the deepest mine in the world and is way much deeper than East Rand Mine. They plan to extend it even more by 2015 as investor demand for Gold IRAS and central bank diversification continues to expand. Presently, they have roughly 5,000 workers, but due to their expansion they are planning to hire more. Indeed, the gold mining industry is lucrative in South Africa.
Some issues have arisen concerning the miners’ safety. There were some casualties in the past years and this was dealt with accordingly by the company. Indeed, this is not an easy job because they have to deal with the heat and the lack of air because the tunnel is so deep. Not to mention the fact that it takes an hour to be able to reach the tunnel itself. It is a good thing that the owners were able to install air-conditioning units to lessen the heat and by 2009 they were able to make the necessary adjustments to ensure the safety of their miners and lessen the fatalities.
Indeed, South Africa has dominated the gold mining industry in the world. It has really distinguished itself in the world market. The year 2010 has been a good year for South Africa as well because they are the first African nation to host the FIFA World Cup which has allowed them to generate so much income for their country.
Indeed, South Africa is a nation to watch in the years to come. They have been increasing their revenue and since gold plays a big part in the market especially during recessions I am quite sure that they will soar even higher in the next decade especially with the increased demand for Gold in IRA portfolios and central banks around the world. South Africa is definitely full of resources that they can use to their advantage and I will not be surprised if they become one of the top countries in world given the land and the gold that they have.
